Highlight, 2011
HIGHLIGHT surgiu do interesse de observar Nova Iorque e desenvolver um trabalho que levantasse questões sobre a cidade onde dez milhões de pessoas vivem em busca de sucesso e do prazer. Aquilo que mais me chamou a atenção foi perceber que a maioria das pessoas vive em solidão e que por isso desenvolve sintomas de alienação e de falta de comprometimento com o outro. Foram várias as situações que presenciei entre elas a falta de ajuda quando um corpo se encontra no chão claramente necessitando de auxílio. Por isso, então, investiguei o que levaria a maioria das pessoas a adoptar esse comportamento. Descobri que era uma forma de conformismo social denominada de Bystander effect ou The Genevose effect, um fenómeno social psicológico que se refere aos casos em que os observadores de situações de perigo ou violência não oferecem qualquer meio de ajuda à vítima, quando outras pessoas estão presentes.
HIGHLIGHT coloca o espectador nesse lugar de observador de um corpo em falência que se constrói na sua destruição. Através de um objecto que resulta híbrido pelas suas interseções entre o teatro, a dança e as artes visuais. Em palco, esse corpo solitário dialoga com um vidro que, dependendo da manipulação e da perspetiva criada, varia entre transparência e espelhamento, aumentando a relação dual entre corpo e reflexo projectado pelo olhar do observador. Desse mesmo interesse advém a utilização do video, um plano sequência captado nas ruas de Nova Iorque, que cria um simulacro espacial entre corpo e video, funcionando como um erro de paralaxe.

HIGHLIGHT came up when Tiago Cadete was living in New York, the city where ten million people live in, searching the success and pleasure. Ten million stories that intersect with each other within the city that welcomes everyone one, promising them the hapiness, but in which one third of its population lives in lonelyness. HIGHLIGHT is a reflection of the consequences of living in society. This piece relies on a coreographic, theatrical and plastic research around a form of social conformism called The Bystander effect or Genevose effect: a social psychological phenomenon which refers to that situations where viewers of danger or violence don ́t offer any help to the victims when other people are around.
